Petworth House Late Opening: A Turner Art Escape
Friday 1 July 6:30-8:30pm, £25, booking essential
Experience the incredible work of landscape painter J.M.W. Turner during this late opening of Petworth House. Turner was a regular guest of the 3rd Earl of Egremont and you can see 19 of his paintings on display here, including specifically commissioned works of Petworth Park that are framed by exquisite Grinling Gibbons carvings. Admire the artwork then, look out of the windows to appreciate the very view Turner painted, as the music of a String duo fills the State Rooms. Further collection highlights include artwork by Van Dyck, Reynolds and Gainsborough, along with the 1592 Molyneux globe and vast sculpture collection.
Highlight talks will be available during the evening, along with a welcome drink on arrival and a pay-for bar. Your ticket also includes entry to the Frank Auerbach: Unseen exhibition at Newlands House Gallery, Pound Street, Petworth. Auerbach produced a series of works on paper on loan in the exhibition from the National Gallery in London, inspired by J.M.W. Turner. Open until 14 August. This visit is not included in the evening event, ticket holders must make their own way to the gallery during visiting hours.
