The Artist’s Garden – Summer Exhibition

Borde Hill has been an inspiration for horticulturalists and artists for generations and this summer we are proud to continue this tradition by displaying the artistic response to the beauty of nature, countryside and gardens.

Visitors will be able to explore the historical Garden, renowned for its rare shrubs and champion trees, where they will discover approximately 40 works by established and up-and-coming artists inspired by both flora and fauna.

In addition to an enticing selection of garden sculptures, the exhibition, sponsored by local employer, 1st Central, will also include a number of paintings and smaller works displayed within the Garden shop and Green Tree Gallery. Uniting the work is their common fascination with the beauty of nature, the countryside and the feelings they evoke within us.
Admission included in standard entry price.

The Plant Fairs Roadshow returns to Borde Hill Garden with a wide range of locally grown, garden worthy and unusual plants to inspire keen gardeners.
The Plant Fairs Roadshow is a collective of specialist nurseries who will be setting up their stalls on the South Lawn in front of the Elizabethan Mansion House to provide a mouth-watering range of interesting, rare and unusual plants for plant hungry gardeners. This is a great opportunity to buy direct from the growers and to get free advice from the resident ‘Plant Doctor’.

Bigger, better and with even more to experience and enjoy, celebrate the extraordinary craftsmanship of independent Sussex, British and worldwide gin distillers at this unique festival. With delicious hot and cold artisan food, captivating demonstrations on all things gin, and not forgetting our main stage with live entertainment all day, this is one of the hottest festival tickets for 2021.
Set within more than two hundred acres of traditional parkland, Borde Hill Garden is a place which captivates and delights visitors with its series of intimate “living garden rooms”, fine woodland parklands, lakes and outstanding views across the Sussex High Weald. Following the success of Sussex Gin Fest 2019, we are delighted to be hosting the festival once again, with ticket holders gaining free entry into Borde Hill Garden.

Sussex produce is at the centre of this unique festival, but we will also be showcasing gins of the world with international culinary options to compliment them, and our ‘Best of the Rest’ zone will feature small-batch guest gins from neighbouring counties. There will also be a local beer brewer on-site and some Sussex ‘fizz’ for you to try and when you need cooling down under the July sunshine we even have a gin and tonic sorbet to quench your thirst!

This event is only for people aged 18 and over. Please drink responsibly.

Open Air Opera - Tosca

Britain’s leading outdoor touring company, Opera Brava, present Tosca by Puccini, performed with a chamber ensemble against the magical backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House.

Tosca is a must see for both newcomers and aficionados. Beautiful and breathtaking arias and rousing musical moments in Puccini’s magnificent score which flows like the incidental music to a film – introducing and reinforcing dramatic events. This new production is set in Rome in the 1940’s and brings to light all of the tragedies that happen in relationships during a world of conflict. The performance will be sung in English.

A day in the life of Figaro... a joyful farce in which we witness the foibles and intrigues used to reveal the indiscretions of a philandering nobleman, Count Almaviva. Some of Mozart’s most sublime music features in this bittersweet yet uplifting comedy. Opera Brava’s new production with an International cast and set in the Eighteenth Century will delight and enlighten you in this glorious production. World class singing from Britain’s outstanding touring opera company. The performance will be sung in English.

David Walliams’ best-seller Mr Stink is coming to Borde Hill Garden with an open air theatre production staged by Heartbreak Productions.

You’re invited to celebrate Annabelle’s 10th birthday, hosted by everyone’s favourite MP candidate, Janet Crumb! (Almost) everyone is welcome… that is, everyone apart from Chloe’s particularly smelly new friend, Mr Stink. One perfectly normal afternoon in an average English town two restless souls unite on a park bench – one of them the lonely 12 year old Chloe Crumb and the other an incredibly smelly homeless man. Oh, and let’s not forget his loyal dog, the Duchess. Chloe’s curiosity and kindness pave the way for this extraordinary and rewarding friendship that takes them to the heady heights of live television and Downing Street via a garden shed.

Pack a picnic, grab a chair and dress for the weather. Packed with fun, humour and a heart-warming message, this touching tale provides the perfect family entertainment.

Performed on the South Lawn against the backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House, Heartbreak Productions’ version of this popular children’s book is suitable for children aged 7+.
