If all this fails, just try a Google search using the name
of the area or place where you wish to stay with the word 'accommodation'.
Historic Houses and Gardens:
Two good sources of information for historic houses, corporate entertaining and
wedding locations can be found at Hudson's
Historic Houses and Gardens and Johansens
Historic Houses, Castles and Gardens
For gardens the best results are obtained by making a Google search on
"Sussex gardens", and there's also the National
Gardens Scheme
Local Radio
These may be called the principal ones, but there are many others with
limited geographical coverage and specialist content. Again, for best
results Google "Sussex Radio Stations".
Sussex
Churches
There are hundreds of Parish Churches in Sussex, and very many are open
during the daytime for visitors. Besides being principally places of
worship, these parish churches are also a vast collection of interesting
architecture, history, furnishings, statuary, stained glass and much else
besides.
See also the Sacred Sussex web
pages, and Chichester
Cathedral
Approved Marriage Premises
There are now very many venues in East and West Sussex where you can be
married, and here are the links for venues in East
Sussex and for West
Sussex
It is the responsibility of the County Councils to license premises for
marriages.
For caravan and camp sites:
UK Camp Site - the Internet directory for caravanners and campers
The Dedicated Partnership's UK Camp Site
(these two are different although they have the same name)
The Camping and
Caravanning Club
A very useful site is Caravansitefinder
which gives some 90 sites in East and West Sussex.
Also UK-Sites
Caravan Parks & Campsites Directory
A Google search on "Sussex Camp Sites" and ditto for caravan sites
produces plenty of results.
For outdoor activity in Sussex try SoSussex
Events in Sussex - there are too many sites
listing events, and ideally you need to look at a number of them to see what's
on offer.
By far the most comprehensive list of Sussex links,
Sussex information, local newspapers, local radio, the arts, leisure and tourism
is the list provided by the East Sussex County Council Information Services Unit
- the ISU, managed by the Libraries, Information and Arts Service. ESCIS holds
information about over 13,000 organisations based in East Sussex and Brighton
and Hove.
The Good Pub Guide and The Good Guide to Britain
contain useful Sussex information: visit Good
Guides
There's only one major brewery in Sussex now - Harveys
in Lewes.
See also the CAMRA (Campaign for
Real Ale) site for Sussex pub details.

planning the AA web site is very good otherwise there's Mappy
and Multimap. ViaMichelin is very comprehensive
about Britain and Europe.
Maps and Guides
The Ordnance Survey
pages provide excellent up to date maps of the whole of the UK.
Otherwise for maps and mapping visit www.streetmap.co.uk
(who provide the maps for the pages on this site); and Googlemaps
are excellent in every way. Their satellite pictures give you a very good
idea of how rural and unspoilt most of Sussex really is.
Tide times: The best information is from the UK
Hydrographic Office. Please take care if you want tide times in
the Chichester area, or anywhere near the Solent, but elsewhere in Sussex from
Rye to Bognor Regis you can add or subtract a few minutes to Brighton or
Eastbourne tide times. Also note if the tables give GMT or BST times.
For information about the South Downs - an Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty and in due course to be the South Downs National
Park, (Cretaceous Park), see the South Downs
Online. Information
on South Downs Way can also be found at
www.nationaltrail.co.uk
The High
Weald of Sussex is also an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Ashdown Forest
has a community website and for general information about walking, cycling and
horse-riding in Sussex see www.ruralways.org.uk/
Good Sussex Beaches: see the Marine Conservation Society
Good Beach Guide.
There are also Blue Flag beaches.
Craftwork: the Sussex
Guild is a group of professional designers and makers of fine
contemporary and traditional craftwork, whose members live and work in Sussex
and the adjoining counties of Kent, Surrey and Hampshire.
