Sussex Gin Fest is Coming to Borde Hill Garden!

Sussex is a major player in the Great British Gin revival which has swept the nation in recent years – or the ginaissance, as it’s sometimes called. This summer you are invited to our gintastic outdoor festival will take place at Borde Hill Garden near Haywards Heath on Saturday 13th of July 2019. This will be the biggest gin and food festival in Sussex, with a wide range of locally distilled gins for you to try, delicious artisan hot and cold food stalls, captivating demonstrations on all things gin, and not forgetting our main stage with live entertainment all day.

Set within more than 200 acres of traditional parkland, Borde Hill Garden is a place which captivates and delights visitors with its series of intimate “living garden rooms”, fine woodland parklands, lakes and outstanding views across the Sussex High Weald. This year it will play host to Sussex Gin Fest, and ticket holders will also get free entry into Borde Hill Garden.

Sussex produce is at the centre of this unique festival, but we will also be showcasing gins of the world with international culinary options to compliment them, and our ‘Best of the Rest’ zone will feature small batch guest gins from neighbouring counties. There will also be a local beer brewer on site and some Sussex ‘fizz’ for you to try. When you need cooling down under the July sunshine we even have gin and tonic sorbet to quench your thirst!

Open Air Opera: La Traviata

Britain’s leading outdoor touring company, Opera Brava, present La Traviata by Verdi, performed with a chamber ensemble against the magical backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House.

From the thrill of unexpected romance to a heart breaking reconciliation that comes too late – Verdi’s La Traviata is one of the most popular of all operas.

Alfredo falls in love in with the courtesan Violetta in glamorous Paris society, but underneath the surface run darker undercurrents, leading to a tragic ending. The opera’s fantastic melodies include the famous Brindisi and the exuberant ‘Sempre libera’ – both showing the lyricism of Italian opera at its most immediately appealing.

Christopher Lane production for Opera Brava will bring out all the emotional colour, from the first discovery of love, through painful confrontation to the inevitable conclusion.

The performance will be sung in English.

Open Air Opera: The Barber of Seville

Britain’s leading outdoor touring company, Opera Brava, present The Barber of Seville by G. Rossini, performed with a chamber ensemble against the magical backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House.

Written in three weeks, Rossini’s masterpiece is one of the wittiest and most immediately appealing comic operas in the repertoire today and is as fresh to the ear now as when it first burst upon it’s Italian audiences in 1816. On first hearing, the utter joy of one melodic masterpiece flowing into the next is thrilling to any audience. As the plot unfolds and is dramatically told through Rossini’s brilliant musical structure, it helps us to understand, in part, the Barber’s special place in the history of opera.

Opera Brava in its 31st year is Britains leading touring opera company. Their production of “The Barber of Seville” is performed by professional and experienced national and international opera singers who have worked with major companies such as; English National Opera and Covent Garden. The performance will be sung in English.

Children’s Outdoor Theatre: Gangsta Granny

David Walliams’ most popular book, Gangsta Granny, is coming to Borde Hill Garden with an open air theatre production adapted by David Kerby-Kendall and staged by Heartbreak Productions.

Description: It’s Friday night and Ben knows that means only one thing – staying with Granny! There will be cabbage soup, cabbage pie and cabbage cake and Ben knows one thing for sure – it’s going to be sooooooooo boring! But what Ben doesn’t know is that Granny has a secret – and Friday nights are about to get more exciting than he could ever imagine, as he embarks on the adventure of a lifetime with his very own Gangsta Granny!

Performed on the South Lawn against the magical backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House, Heartbreak Productions’ version of this popular children’s book is suitable for children aged 7+.

Refreshments will be available throughout the performance.
