National Trust Nymans

A garden lovers’ home for all seasons, with an extensive yet intimate garden set around a romantic house and ruins. One of the National Trust’s premier gardens, Nymans was a country retreat for the creative Messei family, and has views stretching out across the Sussex Weald. From vibrantly colourful summer borders, to the tranquillity of ancient woodland, Nymans is a place of experimentation with constantly evolving planting designs and a rare unusual plant collection.

The comfortable yet elegant house, a partial ruin, reflects the personalities and stories of the talented Messei family, from the Countess of Rosse to Oliver Messei and photographer Lord Snowdon.

Paradise Park

The Heritage Trail and Gardens at Paradise Park are the perfect day out for all ages. The Museum of Life is one of the finest exhibitions of its type in the country with life size moving dinosaurs and a spectacular collection of fossils, minerals and crystals.

The Planthouses have a spectacular collection of the world’s flora. The gardens are one of Newhaven’s hidden secrets with several small lakes, waterfalls and fountains.

The Sussex History Trail meanders through the gardens with handcrafted models of Sussex landmarks. Children’s activities include Crazy golf, miniature railway, play areas and amusements.

We're open every weekend until 27th October, plus selected weekdays (mainly during the school holidays - see timetable).

Tickets may be purchased online, or are available on the day of travel from our stations. We recommend you book in advance where possible, particularly on Special Events days

We are proud to be wheelchair friendly, and the majority of our trains are equipped with ramps to permit ease of access for visitors with reduced mobility. Buggies, prams, bicycles and dogs are all welcome, and carried free of charge!

Tangmere Military Aviation Museum

Gamecock Terrace, Tangmere, Chichester

This unique collection of military aircraft and artefacts from Great War to Cold War includes two past holders of the World Air Speed Record as well as a Lightning, Phantom, Sea Vixen, Hunter, Harrier, a replica Spitfire and Hurricane among others. Allow two hours to see the fascinating exhibits at this famous Battle of Britain RAF airfield including a Lightning cockpit flight simulator (for adults) and three other flight simulators (all ages) to test your flying skills! From pre-history to present day, the exhibition tells the story of Eastbourne through the eyes of the people who lived it. Discover ancient axes unearthed in Eastbourne, a piece of real Roman floor, spectacular Saxon treasure and top secret orders from the Home Guard in WW2.
The exhibition leads you on a journey through Eastbourne’s history. It may take twists and turns that you don’t expect and there will be some surprises along the way. Find out how Mrs Wilson tricked soldiers with a pie, what Richard de Clouworth the extravagantly dressed Vicar did in the 1300s and which magic trick George Grimmond invented in Eastbourne!

Tilgate Park and Nature Centre

Tilgate Park, Tilgate drive, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 5PQ

The Award winning Tilgate Park and Nature Centre, situated on the outskirts of Crawley, is a true gem. Boasting a mix of open spaces, lakes, woodlands and landscaped gardens including a Walled garden with an event space, children's maze and a café. There are water sports on the main lake, a children's outdoor play area, a junior and an adult Go Ape tree top adventure course, a Smith and Western restaurant and even a golf course on site.

The Nature Centre is open all year round (excluding 25th December) and is home to amazing animals from around the world ranging from the much loved meerkats, pigs and goats to the weird and wonderful creatures such as tapir, capybara, macaws, chameleons, wallabies and reindeer. Animal experiences with the meerkats and tapir are available (needs to be booked in advance) and even a junior keeper experience for the day. Birthday parties can also be booked in our adjacent Barn with animal experiences included.
